2007 Las Vegas Military Bowling Event A Huge
Success!
Greetings from Las Vegas!
For those that attended the 2007 Military Bowling Championships, we hope you had a great trip and returned safely! For those that couldn't make this year's event, we hope to see you in 2008!
We are happy to announce that Gold Coast Hotel, Casino & Bowling Center will again host the 2008 event from January 19th through the 25th. Official brochures and registration forms will be available in April.
There were many highlights of this year's affair, not just in bowling scores, but also heard from the thousands in attendance. Many 1st timers remarked that it was "just incredible to run into old buddies" that they lost track of over the years. One player from the Senior Retired division couldn't believe that he never attended this event before after seeing many familiar faces! And, according to him, he will never miss another event.
The recipient of the 1st annual Frank Beach Memorial Award was Retired Air Force's Larry Barker, winner of the Senior Retired Individual All-Events. The award, sponsored by Storm Bowling Products, is in recognition of the many military bowling projects that Frank Beach was involved in until his passing in 2007.
This year also marked the first Best Of The Best, a friendly competition between branches of the Armed Forces. Air Force won this year and team members received plaques - and bragging rights - until next year, anyway. And a member of that team, Larry Barker, joined by Martez Banks, winner of the Active Duty Singles event, and John Childers, whose 1,022 4-gamer in the Retired Division Singles earned him a berth on Team Air Force. The 3-some fired a Baker 248 game with Team Navy close behind with 236. Army & Marines certainly didn't embarrass themselves in the competition, shooting 224 & 220. This debut side-event drew a huge crowd with a lot of cheering going on for their team!
Although 2 teams had to cancel because of weather conditions in their area, the event attracted 160 six-player teams, 10 more than last year.
You can view all of the scoring results now on this web site.
On behalf of High Roller, the Tournament Committee and the many corporate sponsors of the event, our thanks to the Team Captains and to those involved in helping put teams together. It was a great event and we look forward to next year!
